FRANCINE Almost 230 Red Cross disaster workers are coordinating closely with local officials and community partners to provide shelter, food and critical relief supplies to families impacted by Francine.

Emergency shelters are open and Red Cross disaster teams are circulating through hard hit communities to distribute food and critical relief supplies to people in need. So far, the Red Cross and our partners have provided almost 890 overnight stays in 27 emergency shelters. With the help of partners, more than 12,680 meals and snacks have been provided, and more than 3,400 relief items including comfort kits and other supplies have been distributed to people in need. In the days to come, Red Cross disaster teams will help to assess the damage to better understand what support people may need in the weeks to come.

To help reach more people, the Red Cross is working with hyper-local community partners in Terrebonne Parish like TCU Food Bank, Hope Extreme, Friends of the Terrebonne Public Library and the Louisiana Southern Missionary Baptist Association. These partners, and many more, are part of the Red Cross Community Adaptation Program which seeks to build community resilience before disasters.

WILDFIRES Cooler, wetter weather is helping firefighters slowly gain control of the three devastating wildfires burning in southern California which have forced thousands of people from their homes.

The Airport Fire in Orange and Riverside Counties, the Line Fire in San Bernardino County, and the Bridge Fire in San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties have burned almost 117,000 acres and more than 50,000 people remain under evacuation orders. Many evacuees had to flee their homes with very little notice and haven't been able to return. In addition, people are coping with poor air quality, power outages, blocked roads and closed schools.

As many as 160 Red Crossers are working with local officials and partners to provide safe shelter, food and comfort for people impacted by the fires. Since shelters were opened for this disaster, the Red Cross and our partners have provided almost 1,300 overnight stays in 15emergency shelters. With the help of partners, more than 4,800 meals and snacks have been provided along with 2,100 relief items including comfort kits and other supplies for people in need. The Red Cross is also helping people with things like replacing eyeglasses and prescriptions.

FIND HELPAnyone who needs a safe place to stay or a warm meal can find service information on redcross.org, the free Red Cross Emergency app or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767). In Louisiana, people can contact their local parish officials to learn about evacuation centers in their parish.

If possible, we encourage people who plan to stay in a shelter to bring prescription medications, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, other comfort items and important documents. Don't forget to bring any special items for children, such as diapers, formula and toys, or for family members who have unique needs.

We do everything we can to accommodate service animals and domesticated pets comfortably in our shelters. Sometimes, depending on the situation, pets may need to be housed in a different location with support from local partners.
