Ranking Member Scott Questions Timing of Republican's Subpoena to Governor Walz
WASHINGTON - Ranking Member Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03), House Committee on Education and the Workforce, issued the following statement after Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (NC-05) issued a subpoena to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
"The timing of the Republican's subpoena to Governor Walz is weird."
BACKGROUND: Starting in 2021, the Biden-Harris Department of Justice investigated, charged, and convicted individuals involved in the Feeding our Future fraud scheme. Here is a brief timeline of Congressional Republican's oversight of the Feeding our Future fraud scheme.
September 20, 2022: The Biden-Harris Department of Justice announced federal criminal charges against 47 defendants for their alleged roles in a $250 million fraud scheme that exploited a federally funded child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic.
September 30, 2022: Congressional Republicans sent a letter to the USDA for information about the Feeding our Future fraud scheme.
December 15, 2022: USDA provided a comprehensive response to Congressional Republicans request for information.
July 20, 2023: Congressional Republicans sent a follow up letter to the USDA for more information about the Feeding our Future fraud scheme.
November 14, 2023: Congressional Republicans sent a letter to Minnesota Department of Education requesting information about the Feeding our Future fraud scheme.
June 7, 2024: The Biden-Harris Administration Department of Justice announced five individuals were convicted by a federal jury for their roles in Feeding our Future fraud scheme. Eighteen individuals pleaded guilty, and several other cases are still pending.
June 12, 2024: Congressional Republicans sent a follow up letter to Minnesota Department of Education requesting more information about the Feeding our Future fraud scheme.
June 13, 2024: The Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor issued a report about the Feeding our Future fraud scheme.
June 25 and August 9, 2024: Minnesota Department of Education sent production of documents to Congress.
August 6, 2024: Vice President Kamala Harris selected Governor Tim Walz as running mate in the 2024 Presidential election.
September 4, 2024: Despite never directing a single previous, public request to Governor Walz, Chairwoman Foxx issues a subpoena to Governor Walz for documents related to the Feed Our Future fraud scheme.
