community-impact

Nationwide has long been recognized for its commitment to fostering a caring and inclusive workplace - a commitment that also extends into the communities where employees live and work.

Encouraged to follow their personal passions in support of nonprofit organizations and causes through giving and volunteerism, employees across the enterprise are making a difference in their communities throughout the year through the Nationwide Cares Campaign.

Each year, during Nationwide's all-company meeting, extraordinary community involvement is celebrated when the CEO Award winnersin the community impact category are announced.

Eric Henricks
All too often, community members lack the means to engage an attorney when they need legal assistance. To address this justice gap, Eric Henricks established the Office of the Chief Legal Officer's first Pro Bono Committee in 2006, organizing opportunities for Nationwide lawyers to volunteer. For 18 years, Henricks facilitated projects connecting Nationwide legal professionals with over 25 community organizations and events across Ohio, Iowa and other locations where Nationwide attorneys live and work. Building on this foundation of pro bono service, he and his colleagues partnered with Lawyers for Kids, providing free legal services to Nationwide Children's Hospital patients and families facing guardianship and educational issues. This program, supported by Henricks' leadership and volunteers, has made a significant impact, allowing it to expand support for guardianship cases beyond Ohio. By year end 2024, they aim to double the number of cases supported, ensuring that people in need receive the care they deserve.

Dawn MacLean
For over a decade, Dawn MacLean has been instrumental in the Will2Walk Foundation, supporting individuals with spinal cord injuries through scholarships and other assistance. As a board member, MacLean organized events, meetings and fundraising efforts, leaving a lasting impact. Recently, she joined Anni's Army Foundation, a cause close to her heart due to her niece's battle with medulloblastoma, a pediatric brain cancer. Her work contributes to vital research and support for young patients in Michigan hospitals. Beyond this, MacLean volunteers at the Phoenix Rescue Mission, providing life-transforming solutions to those facing hunger, homelessness, addiction and trauma. Her commitment inspires others, including her family members, who have joined her efforts.

Allie Starbuck
Allie Starbuck is a dedicated volunteer with the Junior League, promoting community involvement and sharing her expertise. As vice president of Community Impact for the Junior League of Columbus, she volunteers over 25 hours a month, ensuring positive change and stewardship. Recently, Starbuck led the "Bridging the Gap" committee, supporting foster care graduates with life skills and essential supplies. Her efforts also extend to local programs that provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of youths, helping elementary students learn about the history of the Underground Railroad and inspiring girls to pursue professional opportunities.

Nationwide's community impact was recently recognized by PEOPLE Magazine as the company was named to its '100 Companies that Care'list for the eighth year in a row.
