ATLANTA METRO - Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will install overnight lane closures this weekend to continue a safety project on State Route 12/US 278/Covington Highway from DeKalb Medical Parkway to Craigstone Court in DeKalb County. This will improve pedestrian safety along the corridor and improve the condition of the deteriorating roadway
Weather and on-site conditions permitting, one alternating right or left lane will be closed on Covington Highway between Hillvale Road and Phillips Road will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, June 28 until 5 a.m. on Saturday.
This $1.1 million resurfacing project will construct a roadway median and install Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHBs) lights to enhance pedestrian safety. PHBs will be installed on Covington Highway at the intersections with Hillvale Road and Willington Walk Place. Crews will also mill and pave within the project limits to improve the condition of the roadway. It is scheduled for completion in late summer 2024.
