NC Office of State Fire Marshal, NC Governor's Highway Safety Program, and NC State Highway Patrol Urge Media to Broadcast Move Over Law PSA During Crash Responder Safety Week

In observance of Crash Responder Safety Week, November 17-23, the NC Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM), the NC Governor's Highway Safety Program (GHSP), and the NC State Highway Patrol are asking media outlets across North Carolina to broadcast an essential Public Service Announcement (PSA) promoting the Move Over Law. This PSA seeks to raise awareness among drivers about the importance of moving over or slowing down for stopped emergency and roadside assistance vehicles, a crucial measure to protect the lives of those who work on the roadside.

"Crash Responder Safety Week is a perfect time to remind our citizens of the Move Over Law," said State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor of the NC Office of State Fire Marshal. "Media's support in airing this PSA will help spread the word, protecting those who protect us daily."

About the Move Over Law: The North Carolina Move Over Law, enacted in 2002, requires drivers to either change lanes or slow down when approaching emergency and roadside assistance vehicles with flashing lights. Failure to comply endangers responders and workers, carries legal penalties, and undermines public safety efforts.
