Sinema’s Bipartisan Bill Supporting Survivors of Human Trafficking Approved by Senate

The Maricopa County Air Quality Department will receive $15 million to install publicly accessible EV charging stations at facilities that participate in the Maricopa County Travel Reduction Program

WASHINGTON - $15,000,000 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law led by Senator Kyrsten Sinema and shaped by Senator Mark Kelly will be invested to strengthen Arizona's electric vehicle charging network and improve air quality in the Phoenix area.

The Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program - created by Sinema and Kelly's bipartisan infrastructure law - awarded $15,000,000 to the Maricopa County Air Quality Department to install publicly accessible EV charging stations at facilities that participate in the Maricopa County Travel Reduction Program, which includes schools and businesses with at least 50 employees.

This investment is another step towards a cleaner, healthier, and safer Arizona," said Sinema, co-author and lead negotiator of the bipartisan infrastructure law.

"These clean energy investments show that we can make real progress in improving air quality while ensuring our communities have the infrastructure they need," said Kelly. "The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is delivering the resources necessary to expand Arizona's electric vehicle charging network, helping us build a cleaner, more sustainable future for everyone."

The project will increase the number of publicly available EV charging stations available to Maricopa County residents and visitors, particularly in areas that have been designated as part of the Federal Justice40 initiative. The project aims to close gaps and expand access to EV charging stations through a comprehensive education outreach program and community meetings.

The bipartisan infrastructure law makes the largest investment in clean energy transmission and electric vehicle infrastructure in U.S. history, electrifying thousands of school and transit buses across the country, bolstering critical materials supply chains, improving energy efficiency, and building out a national network of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Sinema led bipartisan Senate negotiations with Republican Senator Rob Portman of Ohio that included Senator Kelly and senators from both parties.

The bipartisan infrastructure law was supported by groups including The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable, The National Association of Manufacturers, The AFL-CIO, The National Retail Federation, The Bipartisan Policy Center, North America's Building Trades Unions, the Outdoor Industry Association, The American Hotel and Lodging Association, The National Education Association, as well as hundreds of mayors across all 50 states.
