RNC Files Fourth Lawsuit Against NCSBE

WASHINGTON - The RNC and NCGOP sued the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) for the fourth time in the last month - this time for illegally allowing digital student ID to be used as voter ID.

RNC Chairman Michael Whatley stated: "Once again, the NCSBE has violated the law in ways which undermine the integrity of our elections. The RNC and NCGOP are committed to fighting these attempts to circumvent the law and protecting the vote for North Carolinians.

NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons stated: "When the NCSBE majority wrongly approved use of this so-called Digital ID, we said we would not stand for it. This lawsuit will ensure that Voter ID laws are faithfully followed in North Carolina elections."

Background:

• On August 20, the NCSBE voted 3-2 along party lines to approve the use of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill's digital student ID application as an acceptable voter identification card for the November election.
• North Carolina law does not allow for digital voter ID. The Democrat members of the NCSBE have once again attempted to circumvent the law and undermine voter ID safeguards.
• The NCSBE's disrespect for the law is not a new issue - as they have failed to clean up voter rolls after losing to us in court and refused to collect the necessary information to safeguard this presidential election.
• The RNC is, and has always been, committed to making sure election officials across the country follow the law.
