West Virginia American Water and American Water Charitable Foundation ...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (July 16, 2024) - West Virginia American Water announced today its end-of-year charitable total for 2023. Last year, the company provided over $459,000 through grants, charitable contributions and programming support to nearly 127 organizations across West Virginia. In addition, the American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF) donated $386,200 in grants and employee matching gifts, further impacting communities served by West Virginia American Water. Combined, total giving exceeded $845,200.

"At West Virginia American Water, our work extends beyond providing safe, clean, and reliable water and wastewater services to our customers," said Rob Burton, President of West Virginia American Water. "We are also committed to supporting organizations that make our communities a better place to live and work for our customers and employees. That's why we're proud to collectively provide over $845,200 in funding to benefit the well-being and safety of our customers and communities."

Some of the 2023 American Water Charitable Foundation grantees in West Virginia included:

  • The Huntington Children's Museum ($164,520) to support the organization's new ADA accessible Sensory City exhibit
  • The American Red Cross Central Appalachian Region ($30,000) to support disaster relief efforts following flash flooding in Kanawha, Fayette and Clay Counties
  • Mission West Virginia ($25,000) to fund its Bridge Program, a mentorship initiative focused on at-risk youth, including those in foster care and homeless teens
  • First Lady Cathy Justice's Communities in Schools Program ($25,000) to support its Steps to Student Success Program
  • The West Virginia Manufacturers Association Educational Fund ($19,820) to enhance its Explore the New Manufacturing Program, aiming to bolster careers in the manufacturing industry

West Virginia American Water employees also engaged in philanthropy of their own, having raised over $37,000 for 73 West Virginia non-profit organizations through the American Water Charitable Foundation's volunteer and matching gift program.
