Dr. Jenifer Willson Named 2024 Woman of Distinction

Dr. Jenifer Willson, assistant professor in the clinical mental health counseling program at Niagara University, was named a "Woman of Distinction" on May 17, 2024, for her critical work in educating mental health counseling professionals. She was one of nine women who were honored for their extraordinary contributions to the community by New York State Assemblymember Monica Wallace.

"The Women of Distinction awards are an opportunity to recognize the unsung sheroes who are working hard to break barriers, support our community, set positive role models for girls and young women, and make Western New York a better place to live," said Assemblymember Wallace. "This year, I had the privilege of honoring women who have done incredible work as first responders, community volunteers, educators, advocates, and more. I thank each of the honorees for all that they have done to serve the people of our community."

Dr. Willson has worked in the field of counselor education for more than 25 years at institutions including the University at Buffalo, Medaille University, and Niagara University, and has presented and published on the topic. She holds a B.S. in social sciences interdisciplinary/health and human services, an M.S. in rehabilitation counseling, and a Ph.D. in counselor education from The State University of New York at Buffalo. She is also a certified rehabilitation counselor.
