Driving sustainable impact through innovation and collaboration

Today, communities globally face challenges ranging from climate change to significant social inequities. These issues have inspired our employees to innovate. We believe everyone deserves to live a healthy life on a healthy planet and our purpose is to help people through the power of technology. No matter who you are, or where you live.

Our latest Impact Report demonstrates the steps we've taken during the last year to accelerate our impact for patients, people, and planet. To showcase that work, here are four stories we're proud of:

1. A SMART approach to women's heart health
   
   Our SMART Trial is pioneering research that addresses historical gender gaps in heart disease research so that, when it comes to women, serious conditions aren't overlooked or misdiagnosed. The trial, started in 2020 under principal investigators Dr. Roxanna Mehran and Dr. Howard Hermann, is the largest ever Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) trial and has included 87% women participants across over 80 global sites. 2. Creating access to STEM careers
   
   The Medtronic Mobile Lab, our classroom on wheels, opened its doors to the students and alumni of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical (A&M) University. Built to simulate an operating room, each Lab is equipped with surgical equipment and dedicated staff, allowing for an immersive experience that enables students to learn about the latest Medtronic-developed technology and explore career pathways in STEM. 3. A new spin on Medtronic energy
   
   We're embracing the transition to green energy by incorporating local renewables into more of our operations. Just 30 minutes from our Parkmore site in Galway, Ireland, we started sourcing electricity from a local wind farm. This energy source is expected to meet 50% of our electricity needs across our five Irish sites, helping us contribute to a more sustainable future. 4. Meaningfully monitoring endangered species
   
   For the past six years, we've helped endangered species reintegrate into the wild through the Smithsonian Institution's Rhythm of Life project. The collaboration enables wildlife and conservation experts to better understand how endangered species respond to changes in their environment with the help of Medtronic heart monitors. As of FY24, over 70 animals from six different species have received heart monitors, including giant anteaters in Brazil, and clouded leopards in Thailand.
