LAKELAND, FL (November 12, 2024) - On Dog Time, downtown Lakeland's long-awaited dog park, located at 145 N Lake Ave, will open Friday, November 15, at 1:00 p.m. Lakeland residents and their furry friends are invited to join city officials and other community members in celebrating this exciting addition to downtown.
On Dog Time becomes Lakeland's fourth dog park, following in the paw prints of Dog Leg Woods, Douglas Cook Dog Park, and Lake Crago Dog Park. The park spans over 1.18 acres and will be open daily during daylight hours, providing space for dogs to play and socialize safely.
The dog park's site was originally constructed as a retention basin by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to manage stormwater from the Intown Bypass. In 2021, the land was generously donated to the city. The Parks Division will maintain the landscape and amenities, while Public Works will oversee stormwater functions, ensuring the park remains a beautiful and functional space for all visitors.
The creation of On Dog Time was made possible through Park, Recreation & Cultural Arts impact fees and CRA funds, with a total investment of $240,000 for its conversion into a dog park. "This project is a testament to the decade-long initiative championed by downtown merchants and supported by the City of Lakeland," says Pam Page, Deputy Director of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department.
The park's entry sign, designed by the City of Lakeland Communications Department, serves as an iconic photo opportunity and an entry feature into the future Downtown East CRA Project. It symbolizes the community's commitment to enhancing urban spaces while providing recreational opportunities for residents and their pets.
Join us for the official opening of On Dog Time Dog Park and experience a new era of pet-friendly amenities in Lakeland.
