Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev: It is untrue to allege Bulgaria would become a donor to Ukraine forever

There is no way for Bulgaria to become a donor to Ukraine forever as, to say the least, state budget allocations subject to the approval by the Members of Parliament should be planned. If the MPs vote against, the country cannot be a donor at all. This was stated by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev who spoke to media in the Parliament to comment persistent unconfirmed reports about the upcoming NATO Summit.

The Prime Minister said firmly that Bulgaria could make financial commitments subject only to the State Budget Act. If such state budget allocations are not approved, there is no way to release them, Mr. Glavchev said. The Prime Minister pointed out that the Bulgarian position for the Washington NATO Summit cites an indicative sum of EUR 80 million, however, this amount and any other amounts can be really released only after they are approved by the Parliament.

We go to the Washington NATO Summit with the decisions that the Parliament approved. I assure that the Bulgarian delegation will not deviate from these decisions, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev confirmed. He recalled that it is in keeping with the decisions of the Parliament that Bulgaria provides military and technical assistance to Kyiv. To parry another allegation, again Mr. Glavchev said firmly that Bulgarian troops would not be deployed in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister welcomed the proposals in Parliament that Bulgaria be a mediator in peace negotiations or in peace initiatives. However, the only point to be emphasized is that such peace negotiations should comply with international law, Mr. Glavchev noted.
