July 25, 2024: Los Angeles Police Officer Braxton Shaw Pleads No Contest to Falsifying Police Reports in 2018

LOS ANGELES, CA - Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón today announced that Los Angeles Police Officer Braxton Shaw entered a plea of no contest in case BA488467 to six felony counts of filing a false police report.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 25, 2024.

The case was heard by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Eleanor Hunter.

"I am pleased with the outcome of this case and would like to extend my gratitude to my office's Justice System Integrity Division for their diligent work and dedication in ensuring that justice is served," District Attorney Gascón said. "Mr. Shaw's betrayal of the oath to serve and protect the community is not only disappointing but undermines the integrity of our law enforcement and the trust that the community places in them. Our office remains committed to fostering a legal system that operates with integrity and fairness."

Braxton Shaw (dob 3/15/83) was assigned at the time to LAPD's Metro Division, where he falsified field interview cards used by officers to conduct interviews while they were on duty.

The cards contained false information and misidentified dozens of people as gang members. Some of the false information contained in the cards was used to wrongfully enter individuals into a state gang database.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department's Internal Affairs.
