Serve Idaho, the Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism, approved Idaho Smart Growth to host two AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members in 2025.
Idaho Smart Growth is a statewide nonprofit committed to alleviating poverty. The organization works with government, private sector and neighborhood leaders to apply smart growth strategies and ensure towns of all sizes maximize community benefits while reducing public costs.
"I am so excited to bring two VISTA members on board to help take our organization into its next chapter," said Idaho Smart Growth Executive Director Crispin Gravatt. "We've got some ambitious goals for our work, and I can't wait to get going and make a difference across the state."
One AmeriCorps VISTA member will lead the organization's new Affordable Housing Moonshot program, constructing a comprehensive affordable housing plan for communities of various sizes across the state. The second VISTA member will expand Idaho Smart Growth's reach and work with high-needs rural communities.
The mission of AmeriCorps VISTA is to provide long term solutions to poverty by reducing and eliminating barriers to education and increasing economic opportunity for all. VISTA members serve full time at organizations while receiving a small living allowance, professional development opportunities and an education award or end-of-service award upon completion of their service.
