On September 24, the University of Montpellier officially launched its Bilan des Émissions de Gaz à Effet de Serre (BEGES). The event, held at the Institut de Botanique, was attended by the university's president, vice-presidents and directors of training, research and administrative structures - some one hundred people in all.

The program included a presentation by NEPSEN, a consulting firm, of the assessment method used and the various sources of direct and indirect emissions that will be analyzed to provide UM with its first assessment. There was also an opportunity to answer questions from the various participants, and in particular to specify the scope and operational timetable for collecting the data required to produce the report.

Planned as part of the UM's Master Plan for Ecological Transition, the BEGES will enable us to target the main greenhouse gas emissions and define quantified objectives for significantly reducing these emissions.
The University of Montpellier's commitment to this approach is part of a global context of combating climate change, environmental responsibility and exemplarity in line with the values promoted by the UM.
