AHN Cancer Institute Teams Up with Pittsburgh Pirates and SportsNet Pittsburgh to Strike Out Cancer

PITTSBURGH - Although another baseball season in Pittsburgh has ended, the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute (AHNCI), the Pittsburgh Pirates, and SportsNet Pittsburgh remain on a mission to Strike Out Cancer through convenient and accessible cancer screenings.

AHNCI is teaming up with the Pirates and SportsNet Pittsburgh to host a no-cost cancer screening event at PNC Park on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to AHN and non-AHN patients and will offer screenings for colorectal, head and neck, prostate, and skin cancer.

"We're thrilled to have supportive community partners like the Pittsburgh Pirates and SportsNet Pittsburgh to help us bring this important health initiative to the community," said James Betler, DO, system director of the AHN Cancer Institute for the Southern Region and Oncology Care Coordination. "Early detection is crucial in the fight against cancer, and this event provides a convenient and accessible opportunity for individuals to get screened and take control of their health."

Attendees will receive giveaway items and will be entered into a raffle for Pirates game tickets for the 2025 season (excluding opening day). Tours of PNC Park will also be offered during the event for those interested in a behind-the-scenes look of the ballpark in the offseason.

Free parking for attendees will be available at the Red Lot 6. To schedule an appointment, call 844-390-4590.

Upcoming 2024 AHN screening events will be held at AHN Cancer Institute - Hempfield on Nov. 16, and AHN Cancer Institute - Jefferson on Dec. 7.

Weekday comprehensive cancer screenings are also available weekly at Jefferson Hospital on Tuesdays and Forbes Hospital on Wednesdays. Patients can visit the AHN website for additional information.
