This week, Mayor Lester Miller took some time to talk students in the Human Too Organization (H20) Exposure Camp. He talked about his responsibilities as Mayor, and gave students the opportunity to ask questions and give input on what they want to see more of in their community.

"I feel like I learned something very important today," said Tony Stephens, an incoming high school freshman. "I got a better of idea why Macon is the way it is."

H20's Exposure Camp allows children in our community to go out, explore, and learn more about the community they live in. This summer, they got to tour government offices, businesses, radio stations, parks, and so much more.

"We thought it would be cool to expose kids who have not been able to see certain things, or meet certain people," said Matrix Drafts, Director of H20. "A lot of them thought they wanted to be one thing, met someone and changed their career path during their time in this camp."

H20 received $30,000 in Macon Violence Prevention (MVP) grant funding to provide this camp free of charge to families. The camp provided transportation and meals for every child.

"This is what we like to see being done in our community," said Mayor Miler. "Camps like these are not only fun and educational for kids during the summer, but they keep them busy and out of trouble. We grateful for organizations, like H20, who are making it a mission to change young lives and show them there is so much more. It really takes a village."

This was the first year of H20's Exposure Camp, and they are hoping it won't be the last year.
