DALLAS - Two Dallas ISD schools will host special events on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to honor first responders and pay tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11.

  • 7:30 a.m. - Dr. L.G. Pinkston Sr. High School: The JROTC program will hold its annual observance, with first responder vehicles sounding their sirens at the time the first 9/11 call was received. The event will also feature a performance by the school choir and a bagpipe rendition of "Amazing Grace."
  • 2 p.m. - Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III Global Preparatory Academy at Paul Quinn College: The school will hold a 9/11 remembrance ceremony. Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia, Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Dominique Artis, and Dallas County Sheriff Marian Brown, among other first responders, will be honored at the event.

Celebrating the spirit of "Making it Happen" through music
Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts will honor the lives and careers of Emilio and Gloria Estefan with a special musical production, "On Your Feet." Running from Sept. 11 to 15 at the Montgomery Arts Theatre, the show will feature student talent, and proceeds will support student-led projects and scholarships.
