TRAFFIC FATALITY - WEST 23RD STREET AND SANTA FE AVENUE

Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a collision that occurred on Sept. 4, 2024, which resulted in the death of a female pedestrian.

On Sept. 4, 2024 at approximately 7:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of West 23rd Street and Santa Fe Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision. Upon arrival, officers located a female pedestrian in the roadway and immediately rendered medical aid. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital.

The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was walking westbound in a marked crosswalk on the north side of the intersection of West 23rd Street and Santa Fe Avenue. A vehicle, turning left from West 23rd Street onto Santa Fe Avenue, collided with the pedestrian as she was in the crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

On Sept. 9, 2024, detectives with the Collision Investigation Detail were notified the pedestrian had succumbed to her injures at the hospital on Sept. 7, 2024.

Information regarding the decedent is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Distracted driving, impaired driving, nor speed appear to be factors in the collision.
