Police are appealing for information following the death of a man when two yachts collided in Sydney Harbour last week.
Between 6pm and 7pm on Friday (6 December 2024), sailing vessels were participating in twilight racing in Sydney Harbour near Sow and Pigs Reef.
Emergency services were called to New Beach Road, Darling Point, and found one yacht, with nine people on board, and a second yacht, with four people on board, collided off Bradleys Head about 6:30pm.
Police were told the vessels were moving around a common marker, but they were not part of the same race.
On arrival, officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command, along with the Marine Area Command found a man, from Sydney's Northern Beaches, sustained a severe chest injury and died at the scene.
The skippers were taken for mandatory testing and the vessels were seized for mechanical examination.
Police commenced an investigation and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Crime Stoppers.
Police would like to speak to any foreshore residents in the Watsons Bay and Vaucluse suburbs, who may have CCTV footage covering the Sydney Harbour Area and any person who was on the harbour at the time of the incident who has on board video including GoPro footage.
Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
