National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from Sept. 15 - Oct.15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Hispanic Heritage Week began as a week-long celebration in 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded to a month by President Ronald Reagan 20 years later in 1988.

The national theme of this year's observance is, "Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together." The City of Killeen looks forward to celebrating the history and culture of Hispanic and Latin Americans, whose contributions are the heart and soul of our nation.
