Meeting between the Chiefs of Defence Staff of Romania and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg


The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, met on Tuesday, July 23rd, at the Headquarters Multinational Corps Southeast in Sibiu and at the "Getica" Joint National Training Center in Cincu, Brașov, with his Luxembourgish counterpart, General Steve Thull.

The meetings took place as part of the visit paid to our country by a delegation of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, led by Deputy Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, who was joined by the Romanian Ambassador to Luxembourg, H.S. Alexandrina-Livia Rusu.

The agenda focused on the exchange of views on the integration of the Luxembourgish soldiers into the NATO Battle Group Romania, deployed to the Cincu training facilities two years ago, to strengthen the deterrence and defence posture.

At the same time, the officials' talks focused on the assessment of the security situation in the extended region of the Black Sea, the development of the Euro-Atlantic defensive architecture, as well as on the diversification of the of joint training and exercises conducted on national territory.

General Gheorghiță Vlad communicated that the excellent level of cooperative relations between the Romanian soldiers and those who make up the allied structure is also due to the remarkable professional conduct of the Luxembourgish military personnel. "Their contribution remains essential in the process of achieving the initial operational capability of the brigade-level Battle Group, which will take place early next year. I reiterate with full conviction that, together, we are firmly committed to collective defence and to strengthening NATO and EU's eastern flank ", the Chief of Defence Staff stated.
