Let’s Europe Day with UniverCity Bochum in the Rotunde!

On May 6, the Rotunde will be all about Europe for one day.

On May 6, 2024, Let's Europe Day with UniverCity Bochum will take place in the Rotunde. During the day, students can learn about study abroad opportunities in the EU and possibilities for European engagement. In the evening, a panel discussion will focus on the influence of digital technologies on European democracies.

"AbentEUer Europa" - Information, Exchange, and Voting Opportunity

The European elections 2024 are approaching. What role does Europe play in your life? Probably a lot, even if it's not always obvious in everyday life. One thing is certain: it's worth getting involved for the European idea! And this is possible both in Bochum and locally with our European neighbors. Do you want to engage for Europe and international exchange or learn more about ot? From 11 am to 2 pm, local institutions and initiatives will present their programs and activities at the "AbentEUer Europa" market of possibilities. At booths of the Bochum universities, you can also learn about your options for studying abroad during your studies as well as financing possibilities. Represented at the booths are, among others, meet! Mercator Europa Tour of Stiftung Mercator, the Landesspracheninstitut, the International Office and many more. Another bonus: In the mobile polling station of the City of Bochum, you can cast your vote for the European elections right on site. This also applies to students from EU countries. Only bringing an ID card is required for this!

Panel discussion: How do digital technologies influence democratic processes in Europe?

After a break in the afternoon, the Rotunda will reopen its doors in the evening! Whether it's navigating traffic, selecting music, or recommending new books - in all areas of our daily lives, we are increasingly delegating decisions to algorithmic systems. How do digital technologies change democratic decision-making processes, in which free choice is especially important? How can they make our system even more democratic, what do we need to protect ourselves from? Prof. Dr. Christoph Bieber (Research Professor Digital Democratic Innovations, Center for Advanced Internet Studies), Prof. Dr. Kornelia Freitag (Vice President for Teaching and Studies, Ruhr University Bochum), and Milad Tabesh (Founder of the Ruhrpott for Europe initiative) will discuss these and of course your questions from 6:30 pm onwards. The discussion will be moderated by Katja Leistenschneider. Afterwards, we will end the evening together with music and European snacks. The discussion will take place in German.
