Peoria County Jury Duty Scam

There have been reports of individuals posing as representatives of the Peoria County Jury Commission in an attempt to collect a fine in lieu of arrest for failing to report for jury duty.

Persons receiving such a telephone call should not provide any personal information and should, if possible, document the number calling. If you believe you were a victim of such a scam, you are encouraged to report the incident to your local Police Authority, Sheriff's Office, or the Illinois Attorney General's Office.

Chief Judge Katherine Gorman has issued the following statement in response to these events. "The Tenth Judicial Circuit Court's Jury Commission will never contact citizens via telephone and threaten them for missing jury duty without proper notification through the court system. Nor will they ever ask for money. Jury duty is a vital civic responsibility and should be taken seriously by all citizens. However, it is a crime for anyone to falsely represent themself as a court official. The Judiciary takes such offenses seriously."
