DeLauro Statement on Apalachee High School Shooting

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro released a statement in response to a shooting at Georgia's Apalachee high school.

"We face yet another senseless and preventable tragedy after a gunman killed two students, two teachers, and wounded nine others during a school shooting in Winder, Georgia on Wednesday morning. This gun violence epidemic touches every corner of the nation - from rural towns to large cities, from college campuses and high schools to festivals and public events - every American community faces the threat of unnecessary and preventable violence.

"It appears from reports that the gunman had unsupervised access to his parents' guns. That is unacceptable. When Congress returns, I am encouraging Members to sign my discharge petition on Ethan's Law, legislation that would require the safe storage of firearms so that we prevent further tragedies. Simple, bipartisan reforms like Ethan's Law could prevent further loss of life, and it is time Congress act on them."
