HARRISBURG - Rep. David Maloney (R-Berks) today sent a detailed letter to the members of the Berks County Board of Elections, Berks County Commissioners and Secretary of State detailing unacceptable wait times to vote on Nov. 5 and requesting significant changes so it does not happen again.
"I witnessed these long wait times as I traveled the district and spoke to folks at precincts, so I began to look into the numbers and as it turns out there were significant issues with three specific precincts: Colebrookdale Township 1 at Liberty Fire Company in New Berlinville; Richmond Township at the Richmond Township Building; and Maidencreek Township 3 at Keystone Villa Assisted Living in Blandon," Maloney said.
"At Colebrookdale Township 1, voters informed me they experienced hours-long wait times throughout the day, sometimes up to four hours. All three of these cases are of serious concern, as long lines and wait times to vote resulted in fewer voters being able to cast a ballot."
"This is unacceptable, and it is not the first time the Berks County Board of Elections has had problems. Several years ago, there was a high-level resignation over election problems. Berks County should be addressing known problems and getting better at managing elections."
