Pay by Plate Parking Kiosks: What You Need to Know

When feeding the meter in Philadelphia, we highly recommend using our widely popular mobile payment app, meterUP.But we get it-some of you may prefer paying directly at the meter or, in this case, parking kiosks.

Just in case it's been a while since you had to make an on-street parking payment, we want to ensure you're on the up and up with our pay-by-plate parking kiosks. Check out the brief run-down below, and feel free to contact us with any issues or questions.

What is a parking kiosk?

A kiosk, also known as a multi-space meter, is a solar-powered device for managing multiple parking spaces.

What are the features of pay-by-plate kiosks?

What are the benefits of pay-by-plate kiosks?

  • You do not need to display your parking receipts on the dashboard
  • You can use any kiosk as long as you have the zone number you are parked in
  • The kiosk has a full-color touchscreen
  • You can choose whether to print your receipt, have the receipt texted to your mobile device, or not print a receipt.

How are the pay-by-plate kiosks different from the old kiosks and coin-operated meters?

The kiosks feature a pay-by-plate platform, eliminating the need for you to display parking receipts on your dashboards. Instead, you input your license plate number when making payment. After making payment, our officers will check the license plate number with their handheld ticketing device to confirm your payment. Pay-by-plate kiosks also allow you to pay for parking at any kiosk if you correctly enter your license plate number and the zone number in which you parked.

How many pay-by-plate kiosks are there?

There are approximately 2,000 pay-by-plate parking kiosks installed throughout Philadelphia.

How do I use the pay-by-plate kiosks?

What forms of payment are accepted at a pay-by-plate kiosk?

The pay-by-plate kiosks will accept credit cards and coins. Mobile payments can also be made through our mobile payment app, meterUP.

How does the Parking Enforcement Officer know I paid?

The Parking Enforcement Officer will scan your license plate number with their handheld ticketing device to verify your payment.

NOTE:You must ensureyour license plate number is correctly entered into the kiosk.

How do I get a receipt?

Obtaining a receipt will be optional. You can print one or have one sent via text message. Receipts can also be obtained online at the link provided below.

What happens if I get a ticket when I pay for parking?

If you would like to dispute a parking ticket that you believe was issued in error, please follow the instructions located on our website athttp://www.philapark.org/violations/.

Do I still have to pay if there is no kiosk in front of my parking space?

Yes, each block regulated by metered parking will have a kiosk centralized in the middle of the block. Parking regulation signs will also indicate that you must pay at the kiosk.
