L3Harris has delivered its first Infrared payload for the Space Development Agency's (SDA) Tranche 1 Tracking Layer program. The infrared payload is designed to track advanced maneuvering missiles, such as hypersonic glide vehicles, in real time.
This important milestone follows the recent completion of Test Readiness Review (TRR) with our SDA customer. Achieving TRR verifies that our space vehicle subsystems, such as the Infrared payload, meet rigorous requirements and are ready to proceed into space vehicle integration and test ahead of launch.
The work is part of an $800-million contract to build a 16-vehicle satellite constellation for SDA's Tranche 1 Tracking Layer program with advanced technology designed to identify and track hypersonic missiles.
"Our infrared payload enables SDA's efforts to accelerate our nation's missile warning and defense capabilities," said Rob Mitrevski, vice president and general manager of Spectral Solutions at L3Harris. "This advanced technology will provide the eyes-in-the-sky for our warfighters to defend against advanced missile threats. I am proud of this team for continuing to deliver cutting-edge solutions in support of the SDA mission."
