MNPD Advocating for Video Sharing by Businesses to Aid in Criminal Investigations

The MNPD will be asking the Metropolitan Council at its meeting on October 15 to consider new legislation that would allow the department to receive external (outdoor) surveillance camera video feeds from businesses/commercial establishments only to assist in criminal investigations.

The Council is being asked to approve a contract with the vendor FUSUS that allows the video to come to the police department in a streamlined fashion. The process calls for businesses to voluntarily elect to share their external video through a FUSUS device they would acquire.

Video sharing by businesses is an important tool to aid detectives in quickly advancing criminal investigations.
