Honoring and Supporting Our Heroes on Veterans Day and Beyond

November 11, 2024

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 1.2 million veterans live in poverty and are unable to afford essential home repairs or modifications. Since launching a national partnership in 2022, Lockheed Martin and Rebuilding Together have repaired more than 60 veteran homes, served 80+ household members and engaged more than 600 volunteers.

This year, Lockheed Martin and Rebuilding Together are partnered on 14 projects happening across the country in communities where Lockheed Martin employees live and work. We share the collective belief that everyone deserves a safe and comfortable place to call home, and this collaboration continues to make that vision a reality for many veterans. Through these actions, we're demonstrating our shared commitment to honoring and serving those who have served our nation so selflessly.

Veterans Day Renovation Efforts

In honor of Veterans Day, Lockheed Martin and Rebuilding Together will renovate and restore two veterans' homes and one Veterans community center. These efforts will include critical repairs and enhancements, modifications for disabled veterans, and energy-efficient upgrades.

Santa Clara, CA

In partnership with Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley, the team provided critical home modifications for a 93-year-old U.S. Air Force veteran who has lived in his home 77 years - a home he helped to build. Despite his love for being outside and tending to his garden, mobility issues have kept him largely confined indoors. Volunteers helped build a ramp, allowing him to independently enjoy sunny days and return to tending his beloved garden.

"It's a great honor to give back to our community and serve our veterans in Silicon Valley," said Lockheed Martin volunteer, Nicole Hill. "Being there to support was more than just volunteering. It was about continuing to uplift and strengthen the community that we live in and this was the perfect project to display that to our fellow neighbor and hero."

Huntsville, AL

A team of dedicated volunteers answered the call to assist Jennifer, a disabled Air Force veteran, in tackling essential projects at her home, including fencing repairs, landscaping enhancements, interior and exterior painting, garage door maintenance, and furniture assembly.

These thoughtful improvements not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of Jennifer's home but, more importantly, made it a safer and more comfortable living space for her.

Roanoke, TX

Following Veterans Day, a team of over 60 volunteers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area will roll up their sleeves to make repairs and improvements to Veterans Point, a local community center committed to assisting service members, veterans and their families. This project is a continuation of rehabilitation efforts completed at Veterans Point in 2023.

The center will receive additional upgrades that will continue making the space more accessible and functional for veterans getting the support they need and deserve. Volunteers will work on railing repairs, landscaping enhancements, interior and exterior painting, and installation of countertops and convection oven.

Empowering Veterans Year-Round

At Lockheed Martin, veterans and military families are an integral part of our team, with nearly one in five employees having a military background. This strong connection to service shapes our culture and drives our commitment to supporting those who have served.

We don't just support them through words alone-we live that commitment through our actions. Whether through hiring initiatives, social impact, or volunteering with military veteran-focused organizations, Lockheed Martin is dedicated to supporting our nation's heroes each and every day.
