July 13: Daily update from the Mayor

Good evening, Galveston. CenterPoint Energy officials made good progress on the island today, with much of the middle of the island coming back online and more infrastructure construction along the West End.

In Galveston County, 8,000 more meters were restored today with 12,800 remaining. The vast mjaority of island homes should be back online within the next day. I feel encouraged by CenterPoint's progress today.

We cannot control the power, but we are focusing on those areas within our control.

At the City of Galveston, we operated food waste centers today for residents to drop off spoiled food. We also continued operating a cooling center and public showers at the McGuire Dent Recreation Center. The cooling center has been operating continuously since Tuesday morning and will remain open overnight tonight. Sanitation also continued their efforts picking up debris across the city, and as I drive around I see more and more progress.

I continue to be extremely proud of the City of Galveston's recovery efforts following Hurricane Beryl. City staff have worked hard to restore normalcy on the island and provide needed services for those still without power.

All the best,

Mayor Craig Brown
