General Obligation Bond on April Ballot

Independence voters will make history on April 8, 2025 when they vote on the city's first ever General Obligation Bond.

The scope of the Independence General Obligation (IndeGO) Bond is far-reaching: repairs to bridges and roads, sidewalks around seven Independence-area schools, improvements to the Independence Athletic Complex, renovations and improvements to three historic sites. Additionally, the Bond would build a new Justice Center centrally located in the City and would also fund the purchase of the Jackson County Regional Animal Shelter building.

On Monday, Dec. 16, the Independence City Council voted 7-0 to put the $197 million bond issue on the ballot. You can watch that vote around the 1:04:00 timecode on the City of Independence YouTube channel.
