Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month Proclamation

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation designating September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in Cobb County.

Education and awareness regarding ovarian cancer are especially crucial because symptoms are often vague or entirely absent, and there is no early detection test for the disease, making diagnosis particularly difficult.

Once diagnosed, treatment options are often limited, and the cancer progresses rapidly. Only 50 percent of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer survive five years beyond their diagnosis, and mortality rates have not significantly improved in decades.

Child Support Awareness Month

The Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation designating August as Child Support Awareness Month in Cobb County. Child Support Awareness Month, observed every August in the United States, was established to emphasize the critical role child support plays in ensuring the well-being of children whose parents are separated or divorced. Initiated in 1995, the observance aims to raise public awareness about the importance of child support enforcement and to acknowledge the efforts of parents and caregivers who provide financial and emotional support for their children.

The month-long campaign also highlights the services and resources available through child support programs that help families navigate the complexities of child support arrangements. By fostering understanding and cooperation between parents, Child Support Awareness Month seeks to ensure that children have access to the resources they need for healthy growth and development.
