Alaska SBDC is Hiring: Mat Su Business Advisor (Part Time)

Are you prepared to significantly impact the growth and success of small businesses in the Mat-Su region? The Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is seeking a part-time experienced business advisor based in the Mat-Su Center in Wasilla. This advisor will assist small businesses and entrepreneurs located throughout the Mat-Su Borough. As a Business Advisor, you will work one-on-one with small business owners and entrepreneurs, providing them with invaluable guidance and support across various aspects of their businesses.

To thrive in this position, the ideal candidate should have knowledge of or experience working with the SBDC or SBA. Experience with business development in the Mat-Su area is highly beneficial. Familiarity with the banking and finance industry is advantageous. The candidate should have experience with angel and venture funding. Knowledge or experience working with AI technology, such as ChatGPT, is preferred. The ideal candidate should have experience with marketing practices related to small businesses, basic web development and SEO. Experience with small business human resources and labor requirements is important. Familiarity with the Mat-Su innovation and entrepreneurship community is essential. Experience with international trade is beneficial. A bachelor's degree in business or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of QuickBooks is advantageous and being bilingual is a plus.

  • Five years of business ownership or business management (financial and personnel). Ownership or management experience should include executive-level responsibility for usual and necessary small business operational functions.
  • Business development and financial accounting knowledge are critical.
  • Business consulting/mentoring experience
  • Knowledge of the local economy and proven ability to build productive relationships with community leaders.
  • Experience developing materials and comfortable providing workshops and training classes
  • Ability to use computerized tools to organize, analyze and store information, and communicate (Alaska SBDC utilizes G Suite Apps, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, GoToMeeting/Webinar and ChatGPT).
