Visiting lithographer exhibits work, hosts workshops at NSU

NATCHITOCHES - A visiting artist and master printer from Veracruz, Mexico, is hosting workshops and exhibiting her work at Northwestern State University this week. Lithographer Yumali Torres from the La Ceiba Grafica workshop is teaching lithography techniques using both the ancient marble stone method and the more recent aluminum plate method in the studio of NSU Assistant Professor of Art Edgar Cano. At the same time, a curated collection of lithographs by Torres is on exhibit in Gallery II, adjacent to the Orville Hanchey Gallery in the Creative and Performing Arts Complex. The show will be up through Friday, Aug. 9. Torres spent most of the summer at an artists' workshop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is wrapping up her time in the U.S. by hosting a workshop at NSU. Gallery II hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8-noon Fridays. Torres' visit was made possible through the support of the NSU Foundation and the School of Creative and Performing Arts. Cano was curator of the Gallery II exhibition on campus.
