Michigan First in the Midwest to Launch Both Home Energy Rebates Programs

On October 29, 2024, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy launched pilots of the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Program (HEEHR) and Home Energy Performance-Based Whole-House Rebates Program (HOMES). Michigan will launch the programs in phases, with the first phase to take effect in Holland Board of Public Works and the Upper Peninsula Power Company service territories. Up to 50 homes will be able to access the rebates until the programs are opened to all eligible households statewide in early 2025.

The HEEHR program offers up to $14,000 per dwelling unit for residents at or below 150 percent Area Median Income. Michigan's HOMES program provides eligible households up to $20,000 for energy efficiency improvements. Income-qualified households in multifamily buildings can access up to $8,000 per dwelling unit. Initially HOMES rebates will be based on modeled energy savings. A measured energy savings pathway will be available beginning in early 2025.
