Berkeley Half Marathon on Nov. 17: Street closures, bus route info
Plan for alternate routes, delays, and parking restrictions as thousands of runners fill Berkeley streets. Some closures start at 3:00 pm, November 16.

From early morning Sunday, November 17 through midday, those biking, driving or taking a bus through Berkeley should prepare for street closures, re-routed bus routes, and parking restrictions due to the Berkeley Half Marathon.
If you've parked your car on an affected street, move it well before the closure time, and take note of parking restrictions. A few streets around Civic Center Park will close starting Saturday Nov. 16.
Most affected streets - including freeway offramps and sections of Martin Luther King Jr. Way - will be closed and re-opened on race day as runners move through. Make plans to use alternate routes -which vary by specific time depending on the street and route.
The Berkeley Police Department and event personnel will monitor the course during these times.
Use the race map or a detailed list of road closures to see the race route, affected streets, and times. Track modified bus routes using ACT RealTime and service notices, which is expected to be updated closer to race day.
Parking restrictions and areas affected by race day activities
Most affected streets will close Sunday morning, with the first closure starting at 6:30 am. Select closures near Civic Center Park will start on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
Be aware that there will be restricted parking along portions of the route. Pay attention to temporary "no parking" signs. Avoid ticketing and towing by parking outside of the course area beginning the evening of Saturday, November 16.
Streets closed for Half Marathon
Review the detour and closure information below. Do not plan to drive your car along the course during these times.
Significant street closures on Sunday, November 17
- Hwy 80, eastbound off-ramp to eastbound University Ave.: 6:00 am to 12:00 pm.
- Hwy 80, westbound off-ramp to University Ave.: 6:00 am to 12:00 pm. Use Gilman or Ashby exits from Hwy 80.
- Off-ramps from Hwy 80/Ashby Ave to Frontage Road: 6:00 am to 12:00 pm.
- Frontage Road from University Ave. to Ashby Ave. exit: 6:00 am to 12:00 pm.
- MLK Jr. Way northbound will be closed at Dwight Way to Addison St.: 5:00 am to 2:00 pm.
- MLK Jr. Way southbound will be diverted at Addison St: 7:00 am to 2:00 pm.
- MLK Jr. Way, local access: southbound access between Allston Way and Dwight Way, 5:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Intermittent access points on race day
Please allow extra travel time through these areas.
- Shattuck Ave. North/South traffic at Channing: Intermittent access allowed from 8:00 am to 9:30 am.
- University Ave traffic going East/West, across Shattuck: Intermittent access allowed from 7:00 am to 8:30 am. University Ave traffic going East will be closed at MLK from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.
- San Pablo Avenue at Page, Jones, Bancroft and Channing: Intermittent North/South access allowed from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
- Sacramento Ave at Channing: Intermittent North/South access from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
- North/South traffic across Sacramento at Bancroft and Channing
