Recycle Week and International E-Waste Day

Recycling is a crucial part of our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. It is not just a personal choice but a collective responsibility that has far-reaching impacts on our community and the planet. By actively participating in recycling, we are taking a proactive step towards preserving our environment for future generations.

This coming week, from Monday 14 October until Monday 21 October, our six main libraries will accept cables and small electrical items (no vapes or batteries please):

• Bitterne Library
• Central Library
• Lordshill Library
• Portswood Library
• Shirley Library
• Woolston Library

The dedicated bins for for electrical items, batteries and vapes are open at the Household Waste and Recycling Centre and you can check online for your nearest local donation point.

By recycling, we can significantly decrease the strain on our planet's ecosystems and lessen our carbon footprint. Additionally, recycling plays a vital role in creating a circular economy where materials are reused, repurposed, and recycled, rather than being discarded after a single use.

As a reminder, in Southampton, there are six items you can recycle at home. These are:

1. Paper
2. Cardboard
3. Aluminium cans
4. Tins
5. Empty aerosols
6. Plastic bottles
