Travel tips for July 3-17: construction, sports, community events and the 4th of July

SDOT construction, street closures, and travel impacts

- 15th Ave NW & Ballard Bridge Paving & Safety Project: Overnight southbound closures of the Ballard Bridge after 10 PM on Mondays through Thursdays begin as early as July 8, continuing for approximately 6 to 8 weeks. Read our recent blog post for the full details or visit the project web page.
- Admiral Way North & South Bridges Lane Closures: Work is scheduled to begin the week of July 8. Expect lane closures on the bridge (on SW Admiral Way between 39th Ave SW and Walnut Ave SW), as well as a complete closure of Fairmount Ave SW underneath the bridge during construction for approximately 7 to 8 months. Two full weekend closures of the bridge will be scheduled at a later date. Find more details on our website.

Overnight on July 9, 10, and 11, from 10 PM to 4 AM the following day, the following locations will be closed as crews continue their work on the Northwest Regional Pavement Repairs and Breakaway Cable Terminal Project:
- Two right lanes on southbound I-5 between the Yale Ave/Howell St on-ramp and the off-ramp to James St (Exit 165A).A single lane on the southbound I-5 off-ramp to James St (Exit 165A). The ramp will remain open.The southbound I-5 off-ramp to Union St (Exit 165B).
- The Yale Ave/Howell St on-ramp to southbound I-5.
- From 10 PM Friday, July 12 through 6 AM Saturday, July 13, eastbound I-90 between Rainier Ave S (Exit 3) in Seatle and Island Crest Way (Exit 7) will be fully closed for tunnel maintenance in the Mount Baker Tunnel (Seattle) and Mercer Island Lid (Mercer Island). This includes closing the northbound and southbound Rainier Ave S on-ramps to eastbound I-90 and the off-ramp to West Mercer Way (Exit 6).
- From 11 PM Friday, July 12 through 4 AM Monday, July 15, both directions of I-405 between Coal Creek Pkwy (Exit 10) in Bellevue and Sunset Blvd/SR 900/Southport Dr (Exit 5) in Renton will be fully closed. Some travelers may use I-5 as an alternate route, and travel delays are expected. Crews will be demolishing a bridge/overpass over I-405, working on multiple drainage crossings, and completing fish barrier correction work as part of the I-405 Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.
- From 11:59 PM Friday, July 12 through 5 AM Monday, July 15, weekend activities will take place for grinding, barrier, grading, and pavement work as part of the SR 520/I-5 Express Lanes Connection Project. During this time, the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to northbound I-5 will close, with a signed detour in place. There may also be lane closures of northbound I-5 between the SR 520 interchange and Ship Canal Bridge.
- Weeknights over the next few weeks, there will be lane reductions on both directions of I-5 between just north of the Corson Ave interchange and the SR 599/Interurban Ave interchange. Travelers in both directions of I-5 should expect multiple lanes and ramps to be closed during overnight hours from Sunday nights through Friday mornings. This is part of the I-5 Duwamish River to South Lucile Street Concrete Rehabilitation Project.
- From 10 PM Friday, July 19 to 4 AM Monday, July 22, WSDOT will reduce northbound I-5 to two lanes, 24 hours a day, near Boeing Field to replace expansion joints on the freeway's Military Road overpass. This is also part of the I-5 Duwamish River to South Lucile Street Concrete Rehabilitation Project. (note: while this work is scheduled just after the timeframe of this blog post, we wanted to share it with you as early as possible).

If you're riding the Link light rail, get off at the Stadium Station and walk a short two blocks over to the ballpark. If taking rideshare, there is a designated rideshare lot southeast of the stadium. If driving, the Mariners Garage opens 3 hours before first pitch. If you're riding the Link light rail, get off at the International District/Chinatown station and walk a short three blocks over to the field. If taking rideshare, get off on the north side by S King St & Occidental Ave S or on the south side by S Royal Brougham Way & Occidental Ave S. If driving, the Lumen Field Parking Garage is located south of the stadium and a North Lot is also nearby. Both open at 6 AM on event days and close 2 hours post-event.
