City of Sandy Springs Launches OpenGov, an Enhanced Online Permitting Portal

July 3, 2024

Sandy Springs, GA (July 3, 2024) - City of Sandy Springs today launched its new online permitting portal OpenGov. The new software allows all users - such as homeowners, contractors and design professionals - to apply for building and special event permits, complete planning and zoning applications, and more. The new portal is accepting new permit applications today and will be open for existing and active permits beginning July 8. To register or log-in to an existing OpenGov account, visit spr.gs/build.

Once applicants are registered, the portal will allow users to upload construction documents, download City review comments, request inspections, pay invoices, and more.

"Our old permitting software failed to keep up with the demands of the City," said Ginger Sottile, Director of Community Development. "OpenGov's simple design and user-friendly application was a clear choice for us, and we are excited to rollout this new and improved software to streamline our permitting process."

New features and procedures include:

  • All permit applications are online, eliminating paper and PDF applications and expediting the process
  • All permit applications are customized and include smart logic that lists available inspections and adapts the questions to answers, minimizing unnecessary data entry
  • Inspections are separated into construction phases
  • Permit card and Certificate of Occupancy/Completion are issued automatically
  • Ability to select multiple parcels on one application
  • New contact registration feature
  • New chat feature to communication directly with staff throughout the process

To access the Build Seminar that walks new users through the OpenGov platform, visit www.sandyspringsga.gov/build-seminars. Sandy Springs Community Development will hold another Build Seminar on OpenGov on July 23, and those interested can register at the same link.
