Global Learning in the Center for Global Engagement is pleased to announce that Boise State student Ashlyn Ketchum was awarded the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for spring 2025. This national scholarship helps U.S. students study or intern abroad, allowing them to gain valuable international experience.
Ketchum, a junior studying business management, will be studying in Verona, Italy where she'll have the opportunity to learn about a new culture and work toward her academic and career goals.
The Gilman Scholarship is funded by the U.S. Department of State and is designed to make study abroad more accessible for students with financial need. This accomplishment reflects both the student's hard work and the opportunities Boise State strives to create for all students.
Gilman scholars can receive awards of up to $5,000 to support their study abroad or internship program expenses. The initiative aims to broaden the diversity of students who engage in international study and internships, as well as the variety of countries and regions they visit. Eligibility extends to students who are recipients of Federal Pell Grants from both two-year and four-year institutions, provided they are studying abroad or participating in career-focused international internships for academic credit.
Scholarship winners have the chance to deepen their understanding of different cultures, countries, languages and economies, equipping them for future leadership roles in both government and the private sector. This program is managed by the Institute of International Education.
