Fredericksburg, Texas - The City of Fredericksburg has been notified by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that it is expecting its contractors to start making signal and traffic pattern modifications along Main Street on Sunday, Nov. 10.
The modifications are scheduled to be completed by the end of next week as TxDOT wraps up a milling, paving and restriping project of Main Street from Cristol Drive east of town to the intersection of Highways 290 West and 87 North on the west side.
The largest of the changes will be the conversion of North Washington Street into a one-way northbound street from Main Street to Austin Street. The modification is designed to alleviate traffic delays on the south side of Washington Street as vehicles look to turn left on to Main Street. The street's current west side parallel parking will become angled parking - adding six additional parking spaces to the area.
Other changes include dedicated left-turn lanes from Elk and Olive Streets on to Main Street as well as from Main Street on to Olive Street, Highway Street and Goehmann Lane.
These changes are being implemented from a plan developed by Kimley-Horn as part of its 2020 Traffic Impact Study for the City. Drivers are asked to be cautious and on the lookout for changes.
TxDOT maintains the three highways that converge in Fredericksburg, including U.S. Highway 290, U.S. Highway 87 and State Highway 16.
