Cycling Paths Connecting Choa Chu Kang and Yew Tee Towns Completed

Cycling connectivity in the West has been further enhanced with the completion of the Choa Chu Kang-Yew Tee cycling path network. The cycling paths spanning around 11km were launched by Mr Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Trade and Industry and Grassroots Adviser to Chua Chu Kang GRC GROs today.

2. Residents can now cycle safely and conveniently to various amenities across the two towns, such as the Chua Chu Kang Community Club, Lot One, Teck Whye Shopping Centre, Sunshine Place, and Yew Tee Point. These cycling paths also complement the existing park connectors, providing better connectivity to parks including Choa Chu Kang and Yew Tee Parks.

3. With this completion, all the stations along the Bukit Panjang LRT line as well as Yew Tee and Choa Chu Kang MRT stations are now accessible via cycling paths. This provides residents with the option to cycle to their nearest transport node. To further facilitate first-and-last-mile connectivity, LTA has added over 300 bicycle parking lots at Choa Chu Kang MRT, Keat Hong, Phoenix, South View, and Teck Whye LRT stations.

4. Those looking to incorporate more active modes of commute into their lifestyles now have the option to cycle to amenities in other towns such as Bukit Panjang, with the cycling path networks across the towns seamlessly connected.

5. As part of works to improve safety and the cycling experience, LTA has widened 22 pedestrian crossings and implemented three new bicycle crossings in Choa Chu Kang and Yew Tee. Bus stops in the vicinity were also upgraded for cyclists to ride behind the bus stops for the safety of all path users. Pedestrian-only path markings will be progressively applied to the 8km of footpaths which are alongside dedicated cycling paths.

6. Creating space for cycling paths in a built-up mature town is a challenge. For the Choa Chu Kang-Yew Tee cycling path network, LTA worked with schools to adjust their boundary so that the paths outside the school compounds can be widened. We also repurposed some road space along an approximately 100m stretch of the Choa Chu Kang West Flyover for the cycling path connecting Choa Chu Kang and Yew Tee.

7. In line with LTA's commitment to using more sustainable materials and methods announced in September last year, the later batch of cycling paths in Choa Chu Kang were constructed using low carbon concrete.

8. Under the Islandwide Cycling Network programme, LTA is expanding the cycling path networks to all towns with a target of around 1,300km of cycling paths by 2030. In the last two years, LTA has commenced cycling path works in various towns island wide. All HDB towns and estates will have some cycling paths in their towns by the end of this year.
