Mark Messmer Refuses to Debate Under All Circumstances

September 8, 2024

INDIANAPOLIS - Republican 8th District congressional nominee and former State Senator Mark Messmer continues to refuse to debate and give the voters an interview for the job he's applying for.

The Evansville Courier and Press sums it up best:

"The League of Women Voters of Southwestern Indiana has tried. The University of Southern Indiana has tried. But nothing, apparently, will make Republican 8th District congressional candidate Mark Messmer debate his opponents." (Evansville Courier and Press, September 8, 2024)

His latest outright refusal to ever debate comes after Messmer resigned his position in the State Senate to "focus" on his congressional campaign just last week.

"Mark Messmer literally resigned from his duties as a state senator to "focus" on his congressional campaign, but still can't find the time or the courage to face the voters of SW Indiana on the television screen in a debate," said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl. "Messmer is happy to take millions from special interest groups yet has zero interest in an actual job interview with voters."

"Hoosiers can and should reject this style of politics because they deserve representation that is willing to talk about the tough issues, from the economy to healthcare to immigration, directly with their constituents. That's the leader Erik Hurt is, and he'd be a commonsense voice for hard-working Hoosiers in Washington. Erik understands the importance of supporting working families because he is a working Hoosier himself."

For now, both Erik and the Libertarian nominee Richard Fitzlaff have agreed to debates with both the University of Southern Indiana and the League of Women Voters. It's just Mark Messmer who the people of SW Indiana are waiting on - and he intends to keep them waiting through election day.

If any members of the media or 8th District voters see Mark Messmer around, make sure he knows he can contact Erik Hurt at [email protected]if he ever changes his mind.
