Pavement Repair Planned at Night This Weekend, Next Week on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that roadway repair will occur at night this weekend and next week on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia under a $37.9 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

• Friday, October 4, and Saturday, October 5, from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM the following morning, single and double lane closures will be in place on sections of eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) and I-676 interchanges for accelerated concrete patching.
  
• Monday, October 7, through Thursday, October 10, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the Montgomery Drive and 30^th Street Station interchanges for paving and concrete roadway repair.
• Tuesday, October 8, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to Girard Avenue will be closed and detoured for milling and bridge deck repair. Motorists will be directed to continue on westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), exit at Montgomery Drive and use the ramp to eastbound I-76 to access Girard Avenue.
• Tuesday, October 8, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from Spring Garden Street to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured for milling. Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour route to access westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
  

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this contract, PennDOT's contractor will mill and overlay I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) pavement from U.S. 1 to I-676 (Vine Street Expressway); perform concrete base, shoulder and barrier repair and replacement as needed; construct minor grade adjustments for existing inlets at select locations; replace damaged signs; install new pavement markings, delineators, and rumble strips; and perform bridge repairs.
