Caltrans To Begin Long Term One Way Traffic Control On State Route 4 At Garwood Bridge For Repairs

Stockton - Caltrans is preparing for maintenance repair of the Garwood Bridge spanning the San Joaquin River on State Route 4, west of Interstate 5 in Stockton.

Crews will perform long-term (24-hours, 7 days a week), one-way traffic control for approximately two months, beginning on Monday, July 22, through September 30, 2024.

This work is required to repair various bridge structure elements including metal sidewalk, bearing pads, bridge rail and paint.

Motorists should expect up to 10-minute delays during this closure and should consider alternate routes when possible.

Caltrans will have automatic flaggers and roadside message signs alerting motorists of the SR-4 lane closures.

This $990,000 project will be performed by Myers & Sons Construction, LLC (Sacramento, CA)

A future project is slated to begin in 2025 that will address maintenance deficiencies including: removal of underwater debris, erosion control and installation of safety lighting along the approach and departure of Garwood Bridge and at the Roberts Lane intersection of SR-4.

Future traffic advisories and social media posts will provide all scheduled highway and city street closure locations, dates and details.
