WASHINGTON - Yesterday afternoon, the NAACP and the Texas State Conference of the NAACP filed a Motion to Intervene in United Sovereign Americans, et al . v. Nelson, et. al. The plaintiffs' case seeks to disenfranchise thousands of Texas voters by forcing the State of Texas to purge its voter rolls and demonstrate that no errors occurred in elections between 2022-2024. The petitioners further request that the state of Texas does not certify the 2024 election without demonstrating the validity of all elections taking place between 2022-2024. The NAACP is joining the defendants in fighting back against this attempt to suppress votes and delay the election certification process.

Janette McCarthy- Wallace, Chief General Counsel of the NAACP shared the following statement:

"The NAACP firmly believes that voters are the cornerstone of our democracy. It is unconscionable that, just days before an election, extremist forces seek to undermine those votes. Let's be clear, no eligible voter should have their voice silenced by frivolous claims of election insecurity. We won't stop fighting until every ballot is cast and counted. It's time that every American respects our free and fair elections process."

The NAACP is currently litigating over a dozen election-related cases in states such as Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin and more, seeking to safeguard our democratic process. In the past month, we have seen numerous attempts to suppress votes through purging voter rolls, including multiple counties in Georgia, throughout the state of Ohio, and others.
