Radiologic sciences students win quiz bowl, Curtis honored by peers

SHREVEPORT - A team of five students from Northwestern State University's Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences program won the annual Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists Quiz Bowl Competition. The competition was part of the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists' 66thannual meeting held in Shreveport.

The team lost its first-round match but came back to win the double elimination tournament. This is the first time NSU's team has won the contest since 2010.

Team members were Jenna Bonnette of Shreveport, Destiny Bryant of Many, Abby Flynn of Robeline, Alyssa Reeves of Bossier City and Stella Srisawang of Forest Hill.

BSRS Program Director and Professor of Radiologic Sciences Dr. Tammy Curtis was recognized by the organization as the Technologist of the Year.Curtis teaches undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level courses. She has presented continuing lectures for radiologic sciences both nationally and at the state level. Curtis has published several articles in journals, contributed to books, edited and reviewed educational books and products and developed new products. She is the current author of international radiologic sciences education textbooks.

Curtis has served in offices from secretary to president in her state affiliate and is active in serving members and students. She holds several memberships with professional organizations and volunteers at national conferences for student competitions and hosts continuing education lectures for technologists and educators.

Curtis completed her Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences at Northwestern State. She earned her Master of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree at Midwestern State University and her Ph.D. at Texas Woman's University. Before entering academia, she worked as a radiologic technologist for various healthcare organizations. She continues to visit local clinical sites with current undergraduate students to stay current in the practice field.
