ANAHEIM, Calif. (Dec. 11, 2024) - Anaheim saw three new elected members take their oaths of office and officially join the City Council on Tuesday.
The three new members were elected in November and were sworn in at a ceremonial meeting at the River Arena next to Anaheim City Hall.
Joining the Council are:
District 1 Council Member Ryan Balius, representing west Anaheim.
A 25-year resident of west Anaheim, Balius takes over for former Council member Jose Diaz, who opted not to run for a second term and is moving with his family to Florida.
Council Member Balius' district goes from north Brookhurst Street to Anaheim's western city lines with Buena Park, Cypress and Stanton and is home to neighborhoods, businesses, parks, schools, a library and Anaheim's 1.5-mile stretch of Beach Boulevard.

District 4 Council Member Norma Campos Kurtz, representing central-south Anaheim.
A 20-year Anaheim resident, Campos Kurtz was elected after being appointed to the District 4 seat in 2023 to fill a vacancy. In 2024 and until the end of this year, Council Member Campos Kurtz also serves as mayor pro tem, chairing City Council meetings as needed and helping to represent the city at community and other events.
Campos Kurtz's district includes the theme parks, convention center, hotels and other businesses of The Anaheim Resort, which together drive the largest portion of the city's revenue for public safety, community services and city obligations.
She also represents neighborhoods at the southern end of downtown as well as around The Anaheim Resort.

District 5 Council Member Kristen Maahs, representing central-east Anaheim.
Born and raised in Anaheim as part of a fourth-generation family, Maahs takes over the seat held by former Council member Stephen Faessel, who served the maximum two terms from 2016 to 2024.
Maahs represents neighborhoods on either side of the Orange (57) Freeway, including the Platinum Triangle, the fastest growing community in Anaheim. District 5 also includes well-known venues Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Honda Center and OCVibe, ARTIC as well as other business in and around the Platinum Triangle.

The newly elected Council members join continuing members Mayor Ashleigh Aitken, Council Member Carlos Leon, representing District 2 in west Anaheim, Council Member Natalie Rubalcava, representing District 3 in and around downtown, and Council Member Natalie Meeks, representing District 6 in east Anaheim.
Anaheim's City Council is made up of seven members, with six representing districts across the city. Mayor Aitken representing all residents, businesses and visitors.
The first business meeting of the new Council will be on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
