Wyden Statement on Harris Economic Agenda

Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released a statement in support of Vice President Kamala Harris' new economic agenda released today:

"Vice President Harris gets it - her economic agenda goes after the expenses that hit American families the hardest: housing, health care, and raising children.

"While JD Vance didn't even bother to show up for the vote on my bill to strengthen the child tax credit, Vice President Harris has committed to expanding it, lifting millions of kids out of poverty and providing extra support for families in the first year of a child's life, when expenses are especially high.

"Likewise, from Day One, Vice President Harris has been all-in on boosting families and addressing the affordable housing crisis. Her economic plan today is a top-to-bottom agenda to lift up parents and middle-class families, with support for first-time home buyers, expansions to the low-income housing tax credit, and the neighborhood homes tax credit that are right in line with my work on the Senate Finance Committee. And I'm pleased she is endorsing my Preventing Algorithmic Facilitation of Rental Housing Cartels bill, to crack down on private equity landlords colluding via software and jacking up rents.

"On the two-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, Vice President Harris is building on the important policies I wrote into the law to lower the cost of prescription drugs and health insurance. Just one day after announcing significant price cuts on ten prescription drugs that seniors in Medicare pay the most for, Vice President Harris is proposing to expand consumer protections against high drug costs to all Americans while ensuring middle-class tax credits for health care continue to lower the cost of health insurance coverage through the Affordable Care Act. I also applaud the Vice President's proposal to crack down on abusive health care middlemen that ask Americans to pay more for health care while delivering less.

"There couldn't be a starker contrast between Donald Trump's roadmap to reward the rich and Vice President Harris's thoughtful, realistic plan to help American families with the issues they care about the most. As the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, which makes policy on taxes, health care and international trade, I'll be proud to work with Vice President Harris to make these proposals a reality when she's elected president."
